Half Dollar Life
Kai (Keoki Johnson) and Chelsea (Rebeckah Groves) are two people who want to find love. Kai is a man with Cerebral Palsy. Kai enjoys being with his friends and volunteers as a tutor but he really wants to have someone to call his own. Chelsea is a non-disabled waitress but struggles to keep her friends from controlling her for their own purposes. When Kai and Chelsea meet at his job, they begin a journey that will change both of them forever. Will they find love? Or will Chelsea fall victim to her so-called friends?

First-time writer/director Keoki Johnson redefines what it means to have a disability in Half Dollar Life. He demonstrates that it is possible to have a disability and lead a life full of opportunity, a life equal to that of a non-disabled person.

“People believe what they see. If they see a person with a disability treated as an equal, that’s how they will treat people in their lives who have disabilities. Film is the most persuasive medium we have.”
